Mail Redirection

If you’re moving home or moving your business, redirect your mail at the Post Office from just £33.99. In light of Covid 19, for personal redirections please apply online.

Redirecting your post

When you move home, make sure your post moves with you. Think about all of the important documents you could receive in the post: medical information, mortgage statements, council tax bills, payslips and much more. Missing any of these could create problems further down the line.

If your post isn’t redirected, there’s a risk that your post can fall into the wrong hands. It’s not just more convenient to redirect your post; it’s safer too.

You can redirect your post to any address in the UK or abroad.

Individuals

Redirecting your post is simple. Choose how long you want your post redirected for: three months, six months or a year. The table below outlines the prices for the different periods and locations. After 12 months, it’s assumed that you would have taken the steps to have your mail posted to your new address by the sender, however you can continue to have your post redirected after this period to combat fraud.

You can apply online via the Royal Mail website (you will need to open an account if you don’t already have one). Or you can print and complete the form online and bring it into your local Post Office branch. We also have application forms in our branches, so all you need to do is pay us a visit.

What we’ll need:

  • The names and dates of birth of all people living at your old address whose post you want to redirect
  • A payment card that is registered to your old address (if it is registered to your new address, we may need to ask you a few extra questions to combat fraud)
  • The addresses and postcodes of your old address and new address

Businesses

If your business is moving premises or you are temporarily relocating your operations due to Covid-19, redirecting your mail is crucial to continue trading as normal. Much business mail is privileged and so it’s imperative that it isn’t picked up by anyone who isn’t the intended recipient. It’s simple to get your business’ mail redirected or diverted.

Business mail redirection

This service is most relevant when your business is completely moving from one location to a new one, or for businesses that solely occupy a building. Please see the table on the Royal Mail website for prices for this service and more information.

Business mail diversion

If only a part of your business is relocating, your business operates across multiple sites or your company works from a building alongside other businesses, then mail diversion is a more appropriate option for you. Pricing and more information is available on the Royal Mail website.

Common questions

How long before moving can I apply?

You can apply as soon as six months before you move. You can also apply up-to six months after you’ve moved, however we may need to ask you extra questions when you apply for security reasons.

Can I apply after I’ve moved?

You can still apply to have your mail redirected up-to six months after you’ve moved. If the payment card you’re using to pay for this service is registered to your new address, we may need to ask you a couple of extra security questions.

Can I apply for other people living at my address?

You can apply for up-to eight people living at your address. If you need to apply for more than eight people, please come into your local Post Office branch to see us and we’ll take you through everything. Remember that you’ll need to provide the names and dates of birth for everyone whose mail is being redirected

How do I renew my redirection?

You’ll be contacted by Royal Mail as your redirection expires to remind you of this. At this point, you can apply to continue the redirection for a further three, six or 12 months.

How many people’s post can I redirect?

You can redirect as many people’s post as live at the address. But remember that if this is more than eight people you’ll need to come into your local Post Office branch and we’ll help you get your application sent off.
